Europa Clipper: One of NASA's most relevant missions will be launched today
The Falcon Heavy rocket, which will carry the Europa Clipper probe, will be launched from the Kennedy Space Center, in Florida, USA. The event can be followed live on NASA's YouTube channel. The transmission starts at 4pm, with take-off scheduled for shortly after 5pm (Lisbon time).

The Europa Clipper mission aims to study the moon Europa, one of Jupiter's largest moons, in detail. The probe is scheduled to reach the moon in 2030. With an estimated cost of around 4.57 billion euros, the mission seeks to understand more about the surface of Europa, which, millions of years ago, may have had favorable conditions for the emergence of life forms.
"Se pensarmos em toda a água que existe na Terra e a duplicarmos, essa é a quantidade de água que acreditamos existir em Europa", explicou Caroline Harper, chefe de ciência espacial da Agência Espacial do Reino Unido, ao The Guardian. "A água é essencial para a vida, como a conhecemos, e, se quisermos encontrar vida em outro lugar do Sistema Solar, é muito provável que esteja em uma lua gelada como esta. A missão Europa Clipper investigará se Europa é um local habitável e capaz de sustentar vida no vasto oceano sob sua superfície gelada."
"É entusiasmante pensar que, na próxima década, poderemos ter provas científicas definitivas do potencial de mundos habitáveis além do nosso planeta", acrescentou Harper.
