When I was in High School one of the books they assigned was The Hobbit. I couldn't get through it. So, no I've not read those books

I would really like it if here in Brazil there was this type of incentive too.

The Hobbit is a great book for children to start reading and understand the universe created by Tolkien.

But at least at the time you tried to read it. 😅
