How did you transfer out of steem. Everything I try just freezes and keeps spinning. Did steem just become hive? All of my posts from there, I can see here on hive. Please help and explain what happened.

HIVE is a fork of STEEM. Things are better improved here in terms of technology and we have more DAPPs. Think of it as BTC vs BCH situation.
