So today I have created a Google Sheets which calculates MACD indicator. MACD is an indicator which provides buy and sell signal based on certain condition and using that condition itself I have created buy and sell signal for the Nifty 50 stocks.
In simple terms, MACD has 3 parts. MACD line, signal line and histogram. MACD line is just a a difference between the EMA 12 and EMA 26. MACD just shows the relationship between two moving average mainly 12 and 26. Once we found out the MACD line, Signal line is just the average of MACD line over 9 day period. In this video I have shown how to calculate the MACD in the google sheets. So that you can also create your own Google Sheet with the MACD indicator.
So now I have created 2 sheets one with the RSI and one with the MACD. And now I am thinking of creating a new sheet where we will create all the buy and sell signal based on some of the popular indicator. And if all the indicator suggest a buy then it will be a good buy. Though I am not a trader, but for Swing Trading also we can actually use these indicators and try to grab some of the returns from it.
And the use of these sheets is that we don't have to go to any external sites to know about it, we can use the Google sheet to track all the stocks and invest accordingly. I know keeping track of all the sheets is hard and that's why I am thinking of creating a master sheet and from there we can track all the sheets as well as all the YouTube videos about it. What's the logic behind selecting the EMA 12 and EMA 26?
Moreover, my understanding was that MACD is not to be used in sideways markets.
Logic is that we have to get fast EMA and slow EMA. 12 is 2 weeks whereas 26 is 1 months which is ideal scenario to see the momentum of the stock. Though the market is sideways the individual stock might be on the momentum which we have to find out. But there can be some problem also like frequent crossover which is a problem sometimes.
