2023, A Year of Personal and Professional Developments
As I reflect on the year 2023, it's time to provide an annual review of my activities on Hive, as well as share some significant events from my personal and professional life.
Beyond Hive
The year brought a mix of experiences for me:
Personal Loss and New Beginnings
The year began on a somber note with the loss of our beloved English Bulldog, Jessie. After two weeks of suffering, she passed away at the age of six. Despite our best efforts to provide her with a happy retirement after being abandoned, the inherent health challenges of the breed took their toll. Eager to fill the void, we welcomed Lillie, a Continental Bulldog, a few months later. This newer breed, designed to address health issues prevalent in English Bulldogs, has proven to be in better health overall. Despite that, Lillie underwent surgery for cruciate ligaments, and she's now on the path to a full recovery.
Professional Growth
On the professional front, my role within the company continued to evolve. I discovered a strong interest in Data Governance, delving into extensive reading on the subject. This newfound passion is likely to inspire one of my upcoming articles. The demands of my job consumed much of my energy, leaving limited time for writing.
Personal Projects
Despite a busy schedule, I managed to explore new tools and enhance my skills. I successfully published my VSCode extension dedicated to Terraform & BigQuery. Additionally, I addressed bugs in my wife's client management software, designed for her osteopathy practice. While planning to make the application public, I recognize the need to implement an internationalization feature, as it is currently available only in French.
AI Exploration
Intrigued by generational AIs, I delved into the capabilities of ChatGPT and Bing Image Creator. This exploration formed the basis of one of my articles, where I shared insights and experiences with these AI tools.
In summary, 2023 was a year marked by personal and professional growth, new beginnings, and continuous exploration of emerging technologies. As I look ahead, I'm excited about the potential for further advancements and discoveries in the coming year. Stay tuned for more updates and insights on my Hive journey!
Hive Overview: 2023 in Review
Articles
In 2023, I shared a total of 15 articles on Hive, predominantly focused on IT. The piece that garnered the most attention was a heartfelt post about my dog, while the Nextcloud installation guide received the highest reward.
Here's a comprehensive list of all my articles from 2023:
- Generative AI: My Practical Applications
- Installing Appsmith on a Raspberry Pi
- Setting Up Nextcloud on a Raspberry Pi
- My VSCode Extension Dedicated to Terraform & BigQuery
- Dev Diary #1: Setting Up
- The Challenge of Starting a Project
- My HBD Hive Ticker Is Live
- Leo Threads: A Good or Bad Idea?
- Using a HBD Hive Ticker
- Testing My Hive Voter Model
- Building a Hive HBD Ticker
- My DCity Hive
- 7 Months of Rising Star
- Meet Lillie: The Continental Bulldog
- So Many Projects, So Little Time
While the rewards per article averaged around 2 HBD, there seems to be a variable dynamic that I'm striving to understand better. Despite variations in length, documentation, and presentation, the rewards do not consistently reflect the perceived quality of the articles. My goal for 2024 is to establish a more regular posting habit, aiming for at least one post per month and a total of 18 articles.
Voting
I'll be transparent—I employ a voting bot to support my Hive journey. Despite its imperfections, it yields a 9.33% APR, resulting in 1.33HP last month and 0.05HP in recent days. Looking forward, I aim to achieve 0.08HP per day solely through natural growth, encompassing voting, posting, and delegation rewards. This would signify a shift away from dependence on dCity rewards, a target I'm eager to reach.
HBD
My savings currently hold 53.9 HBD, and my straightforward goal is to reach 60 HBD. Why 60 HBD? Because it precisely translates to 1 HBD interest per month. Relying solely on the existing interest rate, I could achieve this goal in approximately 7 months. However, I plan to expedite the process by utilizing my dCity rewards. Any additional rewards from postings will also contribute to this goal. Once I hit the 60 HBD mark, I intend to redirect my dCity rewards to bolster my Hive Power.
dCity
Since my last update, not much has changed in my dCity strategy. Currently, I have a small amount of SIM and HIVE in the SIM/HIVE pool, generating around 130 SIM per day. The primary source of my dCity SIM production, at 385 SIM per day, is from tax refunds due to the high taxes in the game. However, I've encountered an unknown hiccup as I now find myself missing 1590 workers. My goal for the year is to gradually purchase housing to achieve workforce equilibrium.
Rising Star
With 10,057 fans at present, my recent focus has been on acquiring 5 "Can of Petrol" cards to unlock the "Full Band Support" mission—a task that took considerable time. While I acknowledge it might not be the most optimal strategy, I prioritize the "Local Mini Tour Support" mission as it offers the highest payout, and its longer duration means I don't have to log in every 15 minutes to initiate a new mission. When using my phone, I find it cumbersome to repeatedly log in and enter my username, especially given the sluggish performance of the website. My objective for the year is to reach level 100, unlock the "Full Band Headline" mission, and acquire 5 more "Can of Petrol." As I await level 100, I'll purchase 12 packs whenever I have 100k starbits, and use my LEO delegation rewards to acquire the "Can of Petrol" cards.
Conclusion
Nothing extravagant planned for 2024—just a gradual increase in my positions across platforms. A significant career evolution is on the horizon, demanding my attention. I'll share updates when I hit specific milestones!
Informations
To craft this post, I wrote an initial draft that was then input into ChatGPT, which generated an article that was nearly ready for publication. I added additional lines and paragraphs, revised the text and incorporated even more information in order to get the current revision.
For the thumbnail image, I used Bing Image Creator with the following prompt : "a bald man working on a computer with a cat on his knees and a dog nearby. Cartoon style" and reworked it using Canva.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your pet! It's never a nice feeling when stuff like that happens! All of the best to you!
Thank you!
Yeah it was devastating. We don't have kids and our pets bring a lot of joy and life at home. As our life is organised around their needs(much more for the dog than for the cat, I admit) we felt it very hard.
I've always been a doggy person.... I have three of them and I am still a doggy person but about four month ago I got a cat..... and it was a very good decision for me 🤣 I am liking the bugger a lot!
Although....dogs are better companions...when you call on them they come but cats are stubborn! I like them all equally though 😎😁
Have a great one bud!

Haha Dogs and Cats have different ways of showing they love you. And Cats take more times to feel really confident about you.
We've had our cat for four years now and he never came on our laps. But in the recent month he began lying half on us. His behaviour continues to evolve. (He was already four when we got him).
I agree they do not "obey" as dogs do, but our cat answers when we call him. He likes to spend time outside, and I prefer having him inside during the night. It took time but now he comes back when I whistle (80% of the time) for him.
It's not that they do not obey, it's more that they obey when they "want" to.
I see Dogs as kids and Cats as teenagers 🤣.
What dog breeds do you have??
It is a good thing to set goals but in order to fulfil those goals to the maximum level requires a burning flame of determination and consistency
Thanks for sharing: Happy weekend
Thanks!
That's why I set achievable objectives.
I'm very consistent at work, but it seems that it burns most of my determination. It's already hard to correctly balance work, family, friends and time for yourself, but it becomes really complex when you add personal projects and hive goals!
Enjoy your Sunday!
Yay! 🤗
