Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about how consistency has really been a good but surprising thing for me!
The Third
Consistency is key - 3 years for me!
When I first joined Hive, formerly Steem, one of the things I tried to do several times but could never quite make it happen is to get a posting streak going. It would start a few days and then fizzle out for one reason or another. I was really annoyed by that because I thought I was pretty good at doing something consistently, but apparently I wasn't. That frustration built for several years, and eventually one year a few years ago, I said fuck it and I really dug my heels in!
December 27th 2021 was the day that I seemingly chose to START the posting journey of doing it daily. I wanted to get to weekly just because. Then once I hit weekly, I wanted to get to monthly.. and then I wanted to do 3 months. Eventually it grew from there and I think the important thing is that I learned a lot over the time in the journey. One of the most important things that I learned is that I had my own style and way of doing this posting thing.
I was trying hard to be like the KP Bros, Galen and Taraz, and writing something every day to publish it. That was really a good thing to strive to do, but for me it wasn't practical and it wasn't really possible. I soon figured out that I wasn't going to be able to do that type of thing, and that was okay. I figured out post scheduling a while back, but rarely used it. Post scheduling is what really did it for me though, in terms of being able to generate content at a consistent rate and get it published to the chain in a daily fashion! That was my secret sauce.
Fast forward months, I was on a good streak. I was enjoying it quite a bit, as I was learning a lot about myself and my mental state. I was feeling better being able to write when I was and that was a good thing. We all need ways in order for us to get some mental clarity and benefits, in a world that is pretty hostile in a lot of ways, particularly to men.
Fast forward a while.. and just the other day I crossed 3 years of posting daily! I thought I had already crossed 3 years.. but Hive Buzz corrected me on that :D I started this fun journey 1 year before Hive Buzz came out with the yearly badge, so I have 2 yearly badges and 1 year without it. Making 3 years, but damn does time fly! I know that I certainly appreciate the ability I have to sit down a few nights a week and get my thoughts out that I come up with during the days and nights that I am not writing posts.
There is certainly opportunity cost associated with all of this - where I am sacrificing my sleep in order to do this, but at the same time we have to do something like this otherwise we will fall into a different hole. I would much rather spend this time on Hive instead of watching videos or something that I am purely the consumer instead of a combination of creator plus consumer. That is for sure a mindset shift!
I was talking with someone the other day about how much longer I will keep it up. I have certainly pondered letting the streak lapse when I'm on vacation or something, but I don't have a great reason why I would do that. I appreciate the time spent doing this, and have the ability to do it so I will keep on doing it. Perhaps when my son gets older and doesn't go to bed at 7pm every night, maybe that's when I would stop? You never know, and that's a few years away at least so there's no sense in trying to come up with weird scenarios and I will just appreciate what I'm doing, and keep it going for as long as I can!
What about you, do you try to post daily? Have you gotten a good streak going? Let me know what your strategy is in the comments!

Hopefully one day I can reach that achievement like yours : )
need to work on the scheduling post again. I hope to be better this time, if the life won't throw me another sour lemon. hahah
Congrats on being consistent for the past 3 years man. you are awesome.
Thanks man, you are equally consistent but you've just had life interrupt you! I've been lucky that it hasn't yet but that could end at any time lol. The important thing is consistency regardless of if we miss a day or not!
I'm still at the stage you started at. Telling myself I can post daily, buzzing about for a week or two then letting the !SLOTH in and lapsing for a time.
Post scheduling is probably the part I'm still lacking, I need to find a few topics I want to blog about weekly and schedule posts around those topics.
Congrats on 3 years daily posting! If I can hit a couple of monthly posting badges again this year I'll be quiet happy! Who knows, maybe next year is the year I finally find my real buzz!
Yeah what helps me is that I have themes for posts. Monday is always black and white photography, Tuesday is always music, Wednesday is frequently walks out places. Then the rest of the week are varied but it gives me the ability to find content to fill in the gaps. A lot of times I do finance stuff on Saturday so that helps too.
You just have to find your groove! Scheduling helps a lot!
Yeah I dabbled in three tune Tuesday and Wednesday walks for a bit. Also started Saturday savers this year so that's an easy 4 posts to make. Just need to find some others to fill the rest of the week and I'd be set. As long as I can shake the sloth and stick to it!
I think it's kind of like a natural progression. Initially, we find it hard to post consistently no matter how much we try but then suddenly the shift happens, and we gather a solid way to stay consistent and keep at it. I've not tried post scheduling, but when I do experience creative sprints, I often condense three days work in a single day.
Congrats on the 3 years of consistency, more years to come!
Thanks dude! Yeah it's definitely progression. We get into a flow and are able to produce decent content in a straight forward manner. The funny thing about it too is that I really enjoy being able to do it so I don't even mind the routine!
Wow you guys are amazing! Personally, in an ideal scenario, I would try to post daily. But sometimes, I just don't have anything meaningful to share, or if I had a long day at work and just want to chill, I just end up reading and curating posts instead. I probably post 5 to 6 entries a week but that also means not having a streak. And that's alright with me. Hehe.
Yeah for sure man! Eventually I'll slow down and go to posting less often but as long as I can schedule things I'm good. If I was only able to write and publish it the same day I wouldn't have a streak lol
