What is Crypto Airdrop?
I recently heard about this airdrop happening with Ape coin and it was a very big succes and huge. I did my research about it because, WTF is that? The only Airdrop I know is a tool on Iphone to send files or pictures. But what the hell is Airdrop on crypto? You get free money? I believe everyone know what Airdrop is. Why is nobody telling me shit about it?
Chachababe is a big girl and independent, so I found it out myself. Airdrop involve blockchain-based projects and developers giving out free tokens to members of their communities as part of a marketing strategy. The mission is to send them newly minted tokens to many (could be hundreds or even thousands) different wallet addresses so the recipients/users will be more interested to engage with corresponding project.
Still too complex? I gotchu. Another easier explanation is, there is this new clothing store that is just open in your area and they send you a free discount in your mailbox. They do this trick so then you interested to visit and buy stuff from their store. Crypto airdrop is not about to make the recipients/users to spend their money but to spread the new projects and services.
Why there should be crypto airdrop?
The main idea is about to promote a blockchain startup, projects and services. By giving the free tokens that gonna be sending to different wallet addresses. This works similar just like some giveaway you found on social media. They offer you some gifts and you have to do the rules of the giveaway itself. This is purposely to boost more participants to participate the giveaway. But Airdrop works quite different. The more interest surrounding the token, the more likely it will rise in price.
Some Airdrop could be worth like crazy but some could be worth nothing too. That is life baby. It always depends on what kind of Airdrop, the rules, and your activity in the crypto world. As an example can depend on how many NFTs you bought on Opensea or how much money you've spent on OpenSea. So what I'm trying to say here is, it could be, the more money you've spent the bigger chances you will get the free token from the Airdrop will be. It will always surprise you. I mean we are talking about free money?
Another way to define the size of your airdrop is how much of another cryptocurrency you already own. For example people who stake Luna are receiving several airdrops depending on how many luna they have staked.

This was the most controversial one in blockchain history. In August 2017 Bitcoin Cash (BCH) gave every person who held 1 Bitcoin at the time of the snapshot received 1 BCH. The airdrop value was at BCH peak $4.300 per BCH.

In November 2017, only subscribers of Airdrop Alert were allowed for this airdrop, which made it the first exclusive airdrop in the blockchain industry. Each lucky participant received 2227 PRL’s. The total value of the airdrop was nearly $11.000.
OpenDao
In December 2021 OpenDao made a surprise on Christmas Eve with dropping an Airdrop called SOS token that is distributed to people who have spent money on OpenSea transactions. Over 200.000 users claimed nearly 39 trillion SOS tokens, an amount currently worth almost $265 million. This is another of craziness. Some NFT traders people could claim $10.000.
Uniswap
The launch of Uniswap was officially announced in November 2018. The UNI token airdrop occurred to more than 250,000 ETH wallets. Each user's UNI Airdrop of 400 UNI tokens was potentially worth in excess of $3.300 USD, which translates to over 1 billion dollars being distributed for free, from this one airdrop.
