Simply explained, a cryptocurrency is a new form of electronic money. Traditional, non-cryptocurrency money, such as the US dollar, can be digitally sent, but this is not the same as how cryptocurrencies work. You may be able to use cryptocurrencies to make electronic payments in the same manner that you can with traditional currencies as they become more generally accepted.
