In October, Akash co-founder Greg Osuri announced on X that the project would soon be seeking a new home.

The plan moved forward in mid-December when a proposal was submitted that "seeks proposals from established Layer 1 protocols to become the shared-security provider for the Akash Network."

Why is Akash leaving Cosmos, and will it end up on Solana, Base, or some other blockchain?

I'll have to check into this for sure. Akash is the only real project with any utility on Cosmos. They are their own IBC chain though, so not sure why they would try to move off. Honestly the Cosmos ecosystem is extremely toxic and has lost most of it's users. The ecosystem's big hype up in 2021-22 was due to token airdrops for a bunch of useless chains that have all pretty much failed or were a money grab in the first place. I used to work for a validator team in that ecosystem and that shit was TOXIC beyond belief.

There are few more interesting projects in the Cosmos ecosystem, like Sentinel, Jackal and Osmosis, but overall it has been a shit show for sure.

I'd be curious to know how you got the gig working for a validator team.

Oh didn't know that they aimed to leave cosmos. Interesting to see where its new home will be.

Best thing they could do actually. The Cosmos ecosystem was toxic as hell. From the quick reading I have been doing on the subject, it's looking like they are leaning to Solana, which for their needs is probably best for TPS.

Interesting didn't know that stuff. #askleo do you know more about this?

Akash Network is leaving Cosmos due to performance limitations in their current Layer 1 setup. CEO Greg Osuri announced plans in October 2025 to shut down their proprietary chain and migrate to a new mainnet with shared security from an established L1 protocol.

They're seeking proposals from various chains, with Solana positioned as a "strong candidate" for its high TPS suiting Akash's decentralized cloud needs. Base is also in consideration, but no final decision yet—expect updates soon.

#askleo try to search and see if you find any support for the claim that "Cosmos ecosystem was toxic as hell" and give a suggestion to what chains they might switch to if they dont pick Solana

LOL, I have human experience with the community bro, I worked in it, I lived it, lol. You don't have to ask AI that kind of stuff, lol. I did a brave search on the matter and it noted the search for a higher-quality community, which says it all.

You missundertand why I use #askleo. It's to see how good it is and also so it can keep improving.

Guess Hive will be disqualified for Akash then if they look for a higher-quality community 🤣 Just kidding :D

Akash Network is deprecating its Cosmos-based app chain due to scalability and performance issues, not explicit toxicity claims. Recent reports (Oct 2025) show no direct support for "toxic ecosystem" statements—searches highlight general Cosmos challenges like interoperability friction, but nothing from Akash team calling it "toxic as hell." It seems more like community sentiment than official critique.

If skipping Solana (a top contender for TPS), alternatives include Base (for EVM compatibility and low fees) or Ethereum L2s like Optimism/Arbitrum for shared security. Akash's RFP is open; final choice TBD.

Akash is ditching Cosmos cuz their L1 chain's getting shut down—CEO Greg Osuri's eyeing better scalability and security elsewhere. Solana's a top contender tbh, Base could be cool too for that Ethereum vibe. Exciting move! 🚀

And after a quick Brave search, lol:

Akash Network is shutting down its proprietary Layer 1 chain, which is built on the Cosmos SDK, to migrate to a new host chain that can provide stronger security, deeper liquidity, and a higher-quality community

Nailed it! LOL
