I just read that Disney is launching NFT marketplace that is build on Flow blockchain.
Interestingly enough, apparently they don't mention words like 'nft', 'blockchain' or 'crypto' to avoid freaking moms out. They are just selling "digital pins".
This is probably how blockchain is gonna take over, they just stop calling it 'blockchain' and just start using it like nothing ever happened.
true. NFTs are just tapping into human culture which is largely speculative and obsessed with status. It IS ridiculous but people will tease others for engaging in this behavior without actually changing it in themselves. My mother has all my old toys up in the attic not out of nostalgia but because “they’ll be worth something some day”. What’s the difference?
Personally I’m interested in NFTs that can be used, have you heard of Not a Hotel? Cool concept but way out of my price range. My student bought one. I’d love to buy some NFT demo recordings of some lesser known bands who I think will become famous one day, once that becomes a thing.
If people have an issue with NFTs but not “collectible pins”, they are delusional. Sadly that’s a lot of people.
Good point! I think the popularity and the boom of NFTs caters to our need to collect things. For some the urge is stronger but I guess it's in the DNA of all of us since the hunter/gatherer days.
Use cases is something I'm looking and hoping for and perhaps more and more projects will go in that direction.
What Disney did here is actually quite clever from their perspective, the technology is great but name 'NFT' is tainted so they'd just stop using it. Some might call it diverting customers and I can also understand that argument.
This ☝️.
#branding
Big boys know how to roll
But seriously, the word NFTs (and even the word crypto) is sooooo tainted.
Have you tried to drop NFTs into conversation with a normie lately?
You just get laughed at in your face 😂😢.
The tech is obvs great and Disney are smart branding it as they are.
I’ve mentioned Not a Hotel using NFTs as a way to own a room for one night a year. It didn’t seem to rub anyone the wrong way. But NFT collectibles….yeah. And to some extent I can’t really blame them cause some of the hype is silly. But funny that a lot of people who laugh at NFTs are the same ones who will buy them at the top when all their friends are doing it
Exactly! NFT is the worst of them all, I've once or twice mentioned it in some bar conversation and the guy to whom I said it, just started laughing and talking to someone else 😂, like I said I'm gonna climb to Mt.Everest tomorrow or something...sheesh.
Of course that is the way it will go. Good shout.
Yeah, all done quietly and peacefully. The tech is of course superior but they'll never say it! 😀
hehe damn right they will not say it
Now Disney has to figure out how to get people back to the movies. Since 2020 box office figures have been dismal even for its major properties such as Marvel and Pixar. Not even Star Wars is safe from the Disney Stink (e.g., Solo).
Yeah, in that sense it's the right strategy and a way to get extra revenue. Milking those old franchises.
