Hey friends, this is my introduction post to Hive and threads

in LeoFinance9 months ago

It feels good to pick up the pen once more to express my thoughts in writing. My name is Fortunate Chijioke Uzoegbu. I don't know why Dad didn't choose to give us his name 'Bethel' or even his own father's name 'Obed' as a surname. Notwithstanding, I'm still the son of my father. Interestingly, dad would never call me by my name unless he wasn't happy with me or he needed me to attend to something very serious. He would call me 'Jollyboy'. Mom on the other hand was just like her husband but she chose 'Nna'(A term used to describe the father of the house).

Growing up as a child , many would give me names that appealed to them and not me. They will either twist my own name or carve out theirs. But in all, I loved 'Jolly-five' (A nickname I received from the series of five naira notes I often carried to school back in those days)

I was born into a family of four on the 20th of June 2000. It was just me and my elder sister, Deborah. With Mom and Dad. Lest I forget, I am from Eziowerre, Umuonyahu, Isi-orodo in Mbaitolu L.G.A of Imo state, Nigeria.

I received my nursery and primary school education at St Patrick's international School. A school which by then had responsible mothers as teachers. Who would not only teach you what you should know from the scheme but what you must know as it seems. Though I don't know about the international attached to the school name because for all I know, it's just a school in a typical Aba street.

During my primary school days, I had this love for making drawing of pictures i see in story books and writing novels inside books I design with papers and gum. I was still a good sprinter. The teachers loved me for being intelligent and outspoken. I used to be the best in my class not until I started feeling too overconfident. I would never read during examinations and it affected my grades.

Not reading became a part of me. I no longer had time to draw nor write, it wasn't as if I was busy with anything. On one occasion a school presentation was taken away from me due to a mediocre performance during the rehearsals.

The theocratic ministry school, a religious meeting I attended every midweek proves to be helpful. It made me regain my confidence and made it much easier for me to speak both bold and eloquently. I later had the opportunity of handling three presentations during our final year in elementary school.

I was enrolled into Great immaculate schools for my secondary school experience. I could remembered vividly what happened the first day I stepped into the overcrowded jss1 class. All they could shout was "again?!". I could still recall how the French teacher who was present in the class the moment I walked in asked me few questions in French and to the class' surprise I gave him correct answers. That was all thanks to the lessons from our mean French teacher who visits once in a while during our primary school days.

Secondary school life was a different story altogether. A young boy with dreams of becoming a doctor discovers that life doesn't work that way. Lenrie Peters' 'Panic of growing older' was all true after all.

At Jss2, the literature teacher gave us an assignment to write an original story or poem. That was the moment I realized that science was never really my thing. That was the point I discovered what I was really good at. I was able to write an original poem for the first time, 'Hope'. I felt happy in the inside. I had to leave jet club which was carved out to groom young scientists to press club which was the only one that I found relatable. From then on, I started writing poems at any slight inspiration I got, creating quotes, even speaking against science subjects which is something I'm not entirely proud of. Secondary school was fun.

I was appointed Boys' senior prefect of Great immaculate schools. It was never easy to be a school head boy. It was more difficult with the director's empty promises.

I lost mom on the 21st of January 2018. That was during the last days of my secondary school education. She was my everything. I almost didn't write wassce because I believed it really doesn't make sense since I had no intentions of furthering my education. I would always frown at the hearing of that and besides I was about to join a trade. Mom was buried during the period I was writing my examinations. The burial date had to be fixed and refixed so it doesn't affect my exams. It was never a very easy time for me.

I started trade immediately after completing my examinations. We sell laces and other materials especially meant for women wears. Months later I opted to learn fashion designing. By then I was living with just Dad, because my only sister got married just four months after mom was buried. So sad she didn't live to witness what we've been planning all along.

Fashion design is a skill I grew passion for with each stitch I make, every passing day. The feeling of having to see someone wear an outfit you designed was extraordinary. Being a tailor replaced all those times I had to write down things. The saying that "whatever one leaves, leaves the person" was true after all. Being a fashion designing apprentice wasn't a bed of roses itself but I was happy I scaled through. 'Natus kreatives' a brand name I found suiting for the enfant fashion designing company will get there I believe. The ability is there, we'll continue adding consistency and determination.

HOW I LEARNT ABOUT HIVE

I was having a conversation with Joy @empressjay, a friend I met on Facebook. I asked her what she actually does and what her profession is. That was when she mentioned HIVE. I was curious, I wanted to know more and she was ready to explain. It caught my attention though I have never been a fan of online platforms nor crypto. I decided to give HIVE a high FIVE with optimism. I hope this platform would rekindle that desire I had to express myself with a pen as it comes with a price. And hopefully, if it proves to be worthwhile, I intend to stay for long.

Welcome to the Hive community @brainbrian!
We sincerely hope you find everything you are looking for and have found a new home here.

Seven suggestions to consider:

  1. Guard your passwords carefully, and only publish with the posting key,
  2. Use your active key only for wallet transactions, Keychain, Peaklock, and Hivesigner,
  3. The master password and the owner key are only used to reset compromised passwords,
  4. DO NOT lose your password or keys; copy and store offline,
  5. Do not publish other people's work, be it photos or written, without credit, and be sure to source all of your work, even if it is your own.
  6. An introduceyourself tag is used only once , and
  7. DO NOT OPEN any links in memos or comments that you do not know who they belong to. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so the old saying goes. There is nothing free here.

I found you because @brittandjosie and @jamerussell from @heyhaveyamet presented and promoted your publication to get more exposure and help you grow faster.

If you find yourself overwhelmed and need some guidance, or if you have any questions, there are informed Hiveans available who can help you; you can click to go to The Terminal in Discord here:

Have fun and happy Hiving!
