1/🧵 Some of you may not know but the images we upload to the hive blockchain including nfts are actually not stored on chain #outreach #threadstorm #hive

Sort:

2/🧵 SI uploaded an image directly to the hive chain by encoding it with base64, more info in my latest post link in next thread

They're stored in a shoebox next to the server?

something like that lol I think usually held on IPFS that's another blockchain but this way the image is stored on the hive chain

D.Buzz uses IPFS. I'm not sure what Ecency uses even though uploaded images have Ecency domains. LeoFinance uses Imgur. I have no idea where uploaded videos end up.

well IPFS is alright I think ecency uses that too Imgur is centralized pretty sure so that's not ideal, the only thing that I think can be an issue is added congestion if people store images on hive

I think congestion is the reason for not storing images (and video) on the blockchain itself. Aside from space, there is the coding/decoding of the images. Even if people knew to use your technique, they may not have the patience.
