People look for passive income opportunities in the crypto world. Some people also comment saying that Hive can be a good source of passive income. I agree with that thought by saying that we have multiple passive income sources inside Hive. People can just build their businesses on top of Hive and create passive income streams from them. But there are also other organic ways in which we can create passive income. The two major passive income sources on Hive are HBD savings APR and Curation rewards.
HBD Savings APR
Hive offers an on-chain savings mechanism where we can keep HBD in savings and get a little over 20% APR. This can be a pure passive income for investors. People who would like to get the earnings can withdraw the interest alone every month and it becomes more like a salary to spend for the entire month. I'm personally looking forward to creating one such passive income from HBD every month that can be used for my monthly expenses.
HBD is a stablecoin and it has proved its stability in the last few months even though we had a major crypto crash or bear market. In all those tough situations, even when the value of HBD dropped, it recovered back immediately. 20% APR for a stablecoin is one of the best. Though many other coins offer even higher interest than stablecoins on other chains, most of them are not decentralized. That way we are lucky to have a 20% APR for our investment. The locking period is also only 3 days and we can easily withdraw in 3 days' time. The only problem is the liquidity but hopefully, it should get sorted gradually when there is more crypto adoption.
Curation rewards
The next biggest passive income source on Hive is the curation rewards. Curation rewards are nothing but the rewards people get based on their Hive power when they vote for someone. These rewards are purely passive if they delegate their Hive power to some community that rewards daily or if they automate their voting. People have a choice to keep this as an active source of income or a passive source of income.
People who don't want to invest their time in blogging or writing articles on Hive, can just power up their Hive and enjoy the curation rewards. The APR is somewhere close to 10% if we do it right. There are also some services on Hive that gives us returns every day for delegating the Hive power.
These two are the best source of passive income on Hive. In addition to these two, there are also several other passive income opportunities on Hive Engine and other layers and games on Hive. But these two are the best because they are completely decentralized sources of passive income.

I personally thing the HBD savings APR is the best passive income stream here on Hive. 20% seems sustainable and the price always recover from unexepected swings. DeFi is still in it's early stages but it can also be a good passive income stream when the right system is in place.
I think to an extent, I will still prefer the curation compared to the HBD stable Apr

yeah, I do shy away from HBD too. perhaps due to the Terra Luna fiasco. Curation is good enough as a path to passive income. Especially if I also have a substantial power-up of tokens like LEO. i.e. one curation effort activates multiple streams of effect.

Agree. I never powered down my HP and currently have no reason to do so.
I also set aside a portion of my HBD rewards for the HBD savings. 😊

In the crypto sphere, you have many ways to build passive income. Hive with HBD and curation reward can be a good start for one stream of income.
Saving your hbd is just one of the sweetest things I love about hive.
I think saving and withdrawing the interest at the end of the month is a very good idea.

I am planning to cash out a fair amount into HBD at the next cycle top, ultimately to create a decent passive income source.

I think both is good but I don't think 20% will last forever. We are in the period where we need more HBD in the market so it makes sense right now.

Using bots to play and rent out Splinterlands cards usually has higher yeilds than 20% and is a lot more fun.
Yes, I fully agree on this. since there is no fluctuation in asset value in HBD with 20% APR. Even though its quite slow when we talk about Crypto. But its 100% risk free from volatility. And curation indeed also a passive income.
Getting 20% pr just seems so slow in Crypto right?
Even though I am only getting 4% dividend from my stocks and thats fine right?
Such a weird mindset xD
Lol 😂
Well, thats how it feels since crypro moves so fast xD

I agree. I do both, but I am still on the small numbers here. My next goal is having 10k HP and 100 HBD for my passive income.
Would love to see more of your insights here.
To tell you the truth Hive and HBD kept on going up in my portfolio as value and daily/monthly returns. If I continue grinding and being present consistently on the platform it might become even the main source of steady passive income.

I can totally agree with you that HIVE ecosystem is great for passive income , between staking and games it almost runs on autopilot and while being active pays out it is not a must in most cases but for sure increases income.
Hello bala
Yeah I have learnt the two types of passive income on hive.Hearing it from you make me confident ; it's just a test that ensure if I am right or wrong.😂
The other passive income still very confusing to me.Just trying to learn them.
