Twitter Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ned Segal said the social media giant was considering whether to add Bitcoin (BTC) to its balance sheet.

Segal said in an interview with CNBC on Wednesday that he might consider investing in Bitcoin as part of the company's coffers if he wants Twitter employees to be paid with Bitcoin.

"We've had a lot of preliminary interviews to think about how we can pay employees if they request payment with Bitcoin, how we can pay a seller if they want to pay with Bitcoin, and whether we should have Bitcoin on them."

Twitter's sister company Square is already a Bitcoin investor. Last October, the payment company announced it had bought $ 50 million worth of Bitcoin.

Square became the second publicly traded company to invest in Bitcoin after MicroStrategy. Earlier this week, Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, joined a list of publicly traded companies that have bought Bitcoin as part of corporate treasury management. The electric car maker bought $ 1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin, creating a catalyst for a new rise. @twitter
