RE: Deepseek

When are companies going to realize that collaboration is the quickest way to solve problems and that open source is almost always going to produce better results when there is interesting problems that people want to try and solve. I love, love, love that it only took 6 million to train, as AI bois are so fond of saying, this is the worst it'll ever be, so it won't be too long before any medium-sized company will be able to develop their own DeepSeek LLMs. A huge win for environmentalism too, since the amount of water these AI data centers have been consuming is unsustainable.

I never made the connection between China being forcibly constrained with microchips so them just figuring out how to make it more efficient. Human ingenuity at its finest.

I'm still not convinced GenAI is going to be as world-changing as people expect - I'm not sure how trustworthy it needs to get before companies are willing to take on the liability of entrusting GenAI with legal tasks, accounting, HR, cybsersecurity, etc, but I guess we'll have to see.
