Of course there are other methods of distribution. Like building a PWA, progressive webapp. This option requires you to set up a server, ssl, pay for a domain, and have the know how to set up the app.

If anyone is capable of developing a PWA, I honestly think we can expect them to have the skills to deploy it as well. No rocket science there.
That being said, I still don't get the connection between this sentence and the DLUX project.

Cost. I'm not sure where you're from but $30 for a domain and $5 for a server per month is 2 weeks of pay in quite a few places. The whole point of the project was to enable people to build and share VR, and if Decentraland is the torch holder those fees are simply out of context for most people. But the methods to build and share VR just turned out to be the same as sharing any webapp. On the skills side of things we put together a WYSIWYG VR editor that packages resources on IPFS and signs a manifest to Hive...
