My thought process was the same with regards to paying with SPS, but then I thought that if I was going to pay with DEC, why not buy SPS with DEC the minute that you are going to make your purchase. That way you get the discount and are not spending "your" SPS and also not risking the volatility of holding it from now until the purchase. Food for thought.
