Value of Financial Aid

in LeoFinance3 years ago

I got a call from someone from an association I used to be a part of as a student, it was a fund raising call.
The person had stated they had a need and a budget and asked that I support and I said okay and ended the call.

As we hung up, I began to think of what I could give at the moment considering that it had no place in my monthly budget, what is left of my January income and some spendings I was yet to do.
I thought of an amount, it was what I could give but then I imagined it from the point of the receiver. It looked ridiculous.

I went back in time to when I was in the position of making fund raising calls. Did that severally. And when people who were extremely committed when they were students before going off to practice as Doctors gave some "peanuts" I wonder what had become of them.

I see myself now, giving peanut and the other end wondering what has become of me and my giving message. Preached a lot of it as a student, still do 🙃 but life is happening quick quick.

Until we walk in certain shoes, we may not know how much it hurts or is comfortable.

I was discussing this with @mukoro and we laughed endlessly. She had handed over to me as Financial Secretary (fund raising head) of same association while we were in school, so we laughed at our thoughts then and our reality now.

Now I know the value of all the #2k, #3k and even #7k's I've received.

One time I was wondering why someone gave me #7k when he could have rounded it up to #10k.
Now, with the sweats and toil put in to make #2k, to give #500 may even have me sacrificing a lot (just an analogy).

I was used to analyzing what a person earned and what I felt they could give. Did I ever pause to think they may be saving for rainy days, catering for their families and even working on their personal projects?
Was I the only one asking them for money? Have they been able to enjoy their money? Many people toil to help others at the end of the day, no form of enjoyment for themselves.

I've learned first hand how you can be giving money in small bits and canceling out your personal plans of enjoying yourself, yet you aren't saving much, you aren't enjoying either just lending out to people who won't pay back or giving to people who won't let you be.

I began to think of it this way, for someone that earns #30k monthly gifting me #3k, the person worked a whole day just for me.
I mean, that could afford a medium sized pizza and Coke for chillz, yet it's given to an ingrate.

The worse is comparing two people and rating one over another because of the size of their gift/giving. That little may have been their widow's might.

While still pondering on this, I came across a WhatsApp status update and I traced it to the tweet it was screenshot from here:

There are some people I've thought to check up on but recalling that it may just turn to unplanned debits which may not be appreciated because it's not much to them, I say a word of prayer for them and not call. Very bad, I know.

Best is, get multiple sources of income. Not easy but possible. Save and invest. Sounds familiar right?

I remember consulting a financial consultant and telling her of how I didn't want to release so much money for programs when I served as financial secretary of an association, just so we won't be depleted and she told me that that was good but shouldn't be the entire focus.
"Money has two gates; entry and exit. Stay more at the entry and see that more money comes in. Sitting at the exit all day will hinder progress as no funds are released and growth isn't achieved as no income is made". She said.

I read a post yesterday on how people didn't believe in BTC but here we are now and who knows NFT, the very NFT that people are talking about as being a waste of investment because why buy an online painting of a monkey for such ridiculously high amount, right?, can become the next best thing in the future.

The more it's being talked about, the more popular it becomes. Lol.

Making money is not easy, both the legitimate and illegitimate way (which isn't advised).

I heard a story of a guy who made his money from Yahoo plus who has to run around a Calabash 120 times every night before going to bed or will have to run mad during the day for the rest of his life. Scary sh*t.

So, when next someone gives you airtime money of #2,000 realize that the person is deserving of thank you so much, God bless you and not just mere thanks or I don see am.

If e easy, run am!

Just a few days ago, it was someone birthday and I wanted to send small something. I was literally broke but I had the urge to say happy birthday in cash not just in words.

Once I look at my dwindling account and how much I sent, I wondered if the human who received it will appreciate it or will feel it's too small for her.

I wondered if she knew I was broke, and the money she received was supposed to take me for another few days, she'll appreciate it more

I shuddered. I left it. I have given her a gift for her birthday. If she appreciates it, fine. If she doesn't, it fine too. The universe will bless me either way. That's what I thought.

I am glad you have been on this side of life now, which makes you understand why people do what they do with their money and how we all should be grateful for even a tiny bit given to us..... It's not easy 😩

@akubillionnaire, I thought of you today, I hope you are well?

Yes, you will be blessed 🤗

I'm well, been unable to post on my blog as I experienced challenges with my phone. Thanks for the comment and for the thought of me, I appreciate 🥰

Lol...my dear, it is not easy. It have never been easy.

Remember how people were jubilating when NYSC allowee was raised from 18k to 33k? Lol.

People who didn't know any better were beginning to think that Corpers would become millionaire by the end of their service year.

Hehe... But those that really understood, knew that the 33k of this era is even lesser than the 18k of a decade ago.

Things are hard!

Kudos to anyone that can squeeze out any amount to support good cause.

Happy New Week to you ✌️

Aptly put!

Happy new week to you too.
