The arrest of Pavel Durov in France has sparked widespread controversy, with a number of influential public figures joining in support of him and warning of the repercussions of this arrest on freedom of expression.

Among these figures are Elon Musk, Robert F. Kennedy, Vitalik Buterin, and Tucker Carlson.

Details of the arrest:
Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram application, was arrested in France on charges of failing to moderate the content circulating on his application.

According to media reports, Durov faces serious charges including money laundering, complicity in terrorism, and drug trafficking, which could expose him to a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

This arrest caused a strong shock within the Toncoin project associated with the Telegram application, as the value of the TON cryptocurrency fell by more than 20% immediately after the news spread, before rebounding and gradually recovering, and is trading at the time of publishing this article at a price of $ 5.8.

The Toncoin team has affirmed their full support for Durov and the values of free speech, noting that the TON community remains strong and fully operational.

They expressed their firm belief in Durov’s values in promoting an open and decentralized internet, stressing that his efforts will continue to inspire millions.

Elon Musk, who is known for his support for free speech, was among the first to support Durov, tweeting support with the hashtag “#FreePavel.” He later added a sarcastic comment reflecting his concern about the increasing censorship in Europe.

Robert F. Kennedy, who recently announced his withdrawal from the US presidential race and declared his support for Donald Trump, expressed the importance of protecting freedom of speech in this context.

Tucker Carlson, an American journalist and political commentator, pointed out that Durov’s arrest did not come from Russia or Putin, but from a Western country allied with the United States, highlighting the growing threat to freedom of speech in the Western world.

For his part, Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, expressed his deep concern over the arrest, explaining that the charges against Durov appear troubling and point to future threats to software and communications freedom in Europe.
