Part 13/16:
As Indonesia gears up for its 2024 elections, TikTok’s role promises only to grow. With nearly half of Indonesians under 34 and more than 110 million active users, the platform could dominate future political campaigns. Influencers, paid promoters, and potentially covert “buzzers” will continue to shape narratives, often without transparency regarding sponsorships.
In past Indonesian elections, disinformation—rife with hoaxes and false accusations—contributed to social tensions. The challenge now is to prevent a repeat, especially as political actors exploit TikTok’s rapid virality to spread propaganda or misinformation.
