Part 2/13:
The Philippines is home to an astonishing array of marine species, including the critically endangered sea turtles, with only about one in a thousand reaching adulthood. Conservation efforts, such as hatcheries collecting onshore eggs, aim to bolster populations of these endangered creatures. Five out of seven marine turtle species reside in local waters, where they act as ecological regulators—maintaining seagrass health, supporting nutrient cycles, and benefiting smaller marine species.
