In Lampung, a key Robusta-producing region in southern Sumatra, farmers are witnessing firsthand the impacts of climate variability. The region has experienced frequent rainfall and unusual weather patterns over the past two years, particularly during the critical flowering phase of coffee plants. These disruptions have resulted in inconsistent yields and increased costs for farmers.

One such farmer, Kono, a second-generation coffee grower, harvests only thrice annually due to the nature of coffee ripening. Even as coffee cherries fetch about 20% higher prices now, Kono's income has fallen because of decreased production—highlighting that rising market prices do not necessarily translate to higher farmer earnings when yields are compromised.
