Living in Melbourne has meant an ongoing dance between cultural preservation and adaptation. Her children and grandchildren are affectionately called "Pranakan possums" in Australia—an endearing reminder of their heritage.
Meetings of fellow Pranakan migrants, such as gathering near the Immigration Museum, exemplify efforts to find community and familiarity. Reuniting with others who share her background ignites joy and nostalgia. It’s here she realizes that Melbourne’s Pranakan community is larger than she anticipated, providing a sense of “home away from home,” despite being strangers initially.
