Part 9/11:
China's involvement extends to Egypt’s urban development, notably the construction of the new administrative capital. Chinese firms are nearing completion of Africa’s tallest building—the 78-story tower slated to be the centerpiece of Egypt’s forthcoming city, which will house around 6.5 million residents and replace Cairo as Egypt's capital. China is also developing a rail link connecting this new city to Cairo, vital for facilitating movement and economic activity.
However, Egypt’s economy remains fragile, hindered by multiple challenges amid the global shipping disruptions. The decreased revenue from canal passageways compounds Egypt’s financial woes, making these massive investment projects even more critical—and delicate.
