A major incident in November 2022 underscored these vulnerabilities. During a clash between government forces and MILF supporters, three soldiers and four MILF fighters were killed. The skirmish, primarily caused by miscommunication over military pursuits in MILF-controlled areas, revealed lingering mistrust and suspicion. Although the incident was resolved diplomatically, it highlighted the risk of small incidents spiraling into larger conflicts.
