Decades of violence have long marred the southern Philippines, especially in the region of Mindanao and Sulu, where Muslim insurgents have fought for independence or autonomy. The conflict, rooted in centuries of historical grievances, religious differences, and land disputes, has resulted in massacres, displacement, and suffering for countless civilians. However, a significant milestone was achieved ten years ago with the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Philippine government. While this accord has brought hope and a semblance of stability, the path toward lasting peace remains fraught with challenges and uncertainties.
