Part 2/10:
Thailand's population is projected to halve within approximately 60 years if current trends continue. With a current population of around 66 million, experts warn that this number could shrink to approximately 33 million by the year 2080. The main driver of this decline is the country’s fertility rate, which is now around 1.0—far below the replacement level of 2.1 needed to sustain population levels.
Unlike neighboring nations like Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, which maintain higher fertility rates, Thailand's rate is unusually low for a developing economy. It shares this distinctive trajectory with only a few countries like Japan and Singapore, both of which are advanced economies alternatively suffering from low fertility and aging populations.
