The scene was intended to be a significant moment, showcasing Lori attempting to explain her child's pronouns—"they/them"—to her friends, Jacqueline and Kate.
However, this poignant plot thread was removed after the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Shares Ker revealed that the entire season was written and filmed before Donald Trump was reelected. The political climate at that time influenced the decision, ultimately leading to the excision of the storyline.
