For more serious conditions, breeders and owners must be alert. Some breeds are prone to inherited health problems, especially brachycephalic breeds, characterized by their flattened snouts. Popular in Singapore, such breeds include pugs, Shih Tzus, and Munchkins, which often face respiratory challenges due to their conformation. Additionally, certain breeds are susceptible to congenital defects, such as hip dysplasia, vertebral disc disease, glaucoma, and Cherry Eye, which may necessitate costly surgeries.
