The team’s first encounter with the migrants was through the imposing barrier known as the BTER (Border Tactical Enclosure Reinforcement)—a high wall approximately 20-30 feet tall, stretching miles across the landscape. Surprisingly, migrants managed to find gaps and cross the barrier with relative ease, underscoring the resilience and desperation driving their attempt.
Witnessing this firsthand was both intimidating and eye-opening. As migrants reached the US side, their stories emerged—truths told frankly and openly, revealing the human side of an often-opaque crisis. These individuals, primarily Chinese migrants, showcased an impressive level of openness when discussing their journeys.
