Understanding the gravity of the situation, the team behind this project underwent intensive pre-deployment training. The focus was on jungle survival skills, effective management of personal equipment, and how to handle emergencies such as kidnapping. As one team member reflected, there was a moment of existential contemplation—asking themselves what they were truly getting into.
The training also emphasized logistical fundamentals, including managing group dynamics in confined quarters, which could only accommodate 25 individuals. But the real concern was what happens if migrants run off or if unforeseen complications arise—risks that are eerily commonplace in such journeys.
