Part 6/7:
The shakeup is extensive, affecting ICE leadership across multiple key locations, including Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Denver, Portland, Philadelphia, El Paso, and New Orleans. At least a dozen field chiefs are expected to be replaced, with many positions filled by officers from Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
This reorganization signifies a clear move toward a more unified enforcement front, with CBP taking a more prominent role in executing deportations. An unnamed DHS official told NBC News that the administration believes CBP can better carry out the aggressive policies desired, with the statement, “CBP does what they're told and the administration thinks ICE isn't getting the job done. So CBP will do it.”
