Part 7/12:
Why Are Rats Becoming More Difficult to Control?
Several factors contribute to the increasing resilience of rats in Singapore’s urban environment:
Adaptability and Intelligence: Rats are highly intelligent creatures capable of learning to avoid traps and poisons. They recognize danger through subtle cues, such as pheromones released by deceased rats, and adapt their behaviors accordingly.
Utilization of Urban Structures: Rats now exploit a variety of habitats, including drains, void decks, old structures, and even inside bin centers. Construction activities create new hiding and breeding sites, further expanding their territories.
