In the coastal village of Taminadu, fishmonger Anjal Ay’s story embodies resilience. The tsunami claimed her home and four of her children, including three daughters and a son. The photograph of her faded children is a stark reminder of her loss. Nevertheless, she and her family started anew in government-built housing, and she eventually welcomed two more children. Despite this, her pain lingers, and she mourns her lost children daily.

Other survivors, like Rajendra N, have taken active roles in their community’s recovery. As a politician and unionist, he advocates for better infrastructure and resilience measures. A seawall along the coast of Kichan Kupan stands as a testament to his efforts to prevent future tragedies, embodying hope and proactive defense.
