Davis's pitch to Nickelodeon in 1995 included a short video showcasing Jimmy and his robotic dog, Goddard. Its innovative use of 3D CGI impressed the industry, earning awards and industry praise. Nickelodeon was intrigued but sought a theatrical release to bolster the show's reputation. That led to the 2001 film, which broke ground as the first feature film entirely created with commercially available CG technology. The film's success—both critically and commercially—secured Nickelodeon's confidence in the character.
