In her interview, Vanderpool recounted that when she auditioned for what was then called Absolutely Psychic, Raven-Symoné was not yet slated to be the star. At that time, the show focused on Patricia "Tasha" Smith's character, and Raven was cast as a sidekick, a typical ensemble choice in many sitcoms. Vanderpool explained that during filming, the executives recognized Raven's exceptional comedic talent and charm, which ultimately led them to shift her into the lead role.
