The assertion that media and entertainment directly inspire actual gun crimes is challenged by the fact that countless viewers distinguish fiction from reality. Unlike portrayals of unsafe sex or drug use, which have been shown to influence real behavior, gun violence depicted in movies doesn’t necessarily lead to actual shootings.
