This strategy proves to be much more effective than simply presenting a convincing argument. When alternative perspectives are silenced or neglected, the dominant narrative naturally gains prominence. People are less likely to question or counter ideas they are never exposed to. As a result, influence is exerted not through the strength of one's own argument, but through the suppression of opposition.
