But this initial high is deceptive—a spiritual sugar rush. It’s an intoxicating glimpse, fleeting and superficial, that only hints at the profound journey ahead. The bliss fades, and you are left back in ordinary consciousness, which now feels constrictive and prison-like after having glimpsed freedom. A desperate desire to recapture those peak states begins to emerge.

Confronting the Ego’s Revolt

As the spiritual journey deepens, old patterns and beliefs start to feel alien. Your sense of identity begins to fracture in unsettling ways. This is often the first moment of real crisis—panic, doubt, and the urge to revert to familiar ground. Many retreat here, convincing themselves that what they experienced was just an illusion or wishful thinking.
