One of the recurring themes is the performative activism of celebrities. Maddie Healy of The 1975 exemplifies this with his recent stunt in Malaysia. After discovering that the country enforces strict anti-LGBTQ laws, Healy chose to make out publicly with his bandmate during a festival, ostensibly to protest what he perceives as their oppressive policies. Ironically, this act led to the festival being canceled, underscoring how performative gestures often have unintended consequences.
