Part 10/12:
The concept of a “divorce party” itself is controversial and reflects a narcissistic tendency to glamorize personal pain. Examples in popular culture, such as a 2007 “CSI: Miami” episode featuring a divorce celebration, hint at a long-standing tendency to treat breakups as events to be celebrated rather than processed. Some compare such celebrations to baby showers for abortions or similar rituals—intended to garner support but often criticized as narcissistic or superficial.
Critics argue that these parties serve as outward symbols of self-absorption, with little regard for the emotional toll on those involved, particularly children. It’s viewed as an extreme form of “Ode to narcissism,” where the individual’s happiness and gratification take precedence over genuine healing or reflection.
