Instead, many younger people opt for what’s called “Friendsgiving”—a gathering with friends rather than family—to carve out a different kind of holiday experience. This shift is often interpreted as a cultural boycott of Thanksgiving itself, seen by some as a celebration of colonial violence and genocide.
