Part 5/10:
Within this environment, non-performing loans (NPLs) at the three banks stood at approximately 1.5% to 1.6% at the end of June. However, these figures are expected to double to over 3% in 2021, predominantly driven by corporate sector failures. Industries severely impacted by COVID-19 disruptions—airlines, transportation, tourism—are most vulnerable. Additionally, exposure to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) poses further risk, with UOB more likely to be affected given its greater focus on SME clients.
