Part 1/10:
The Transformation of Tourism and Entertainment During a Pandemic
Singapore's Borders Shut Down, Dramatic Drop in Tourism
Since late March, Singapore has enforced strict border restrictions, halting all short-term tourist arrivals. Pre-pandemic, the city-state welcomed over 1.55 million visitors in June 2019 alone. However, in June 2020, this number plummeted to just over 2,000, representing a staggering 99.9% decrease year-on-year. Despite efforts to energize the local market, Singapore’s population of five and a half million simply cannot absorb the revenue loss caused by the absence of international tourists. Last year, the country attracted approximately 19.1 million visitors, highlighting the immense gap in tourism-related income.
