Part 3/10:
A scientist preheated a glass cup to 300°C and poured room temperature water onto it. The instant contact caused the glass to crack immediately due to thermal stress. This demonstrates how everyday actions, like pouring cold water into hot glassware, can inadvertently cause breakage.
Material Properties Affect Safety
Most household cookware uses borosilicate glass or similar materials designed to withstand temperature changes. However, if the glass has micro cracks or chips—possibly from mishandling—those tiny flaws can serve as initiation points for breakage under less extreme conditions.
