The consolidation is expected to lead to fewer jobs in Hollywood, with massive layoffs anticipated across both creative and behind-the-scenes roles. The industry has already experienced a decimation of employment: WGA writers, for instance, see their jobs decreased by almost half year-over-year, with content production shifting overseas or to cheaper offshore locations.
Furthermore, the quality and quantity of content available to consumers are at risk. With fewer studios competing, the incentive to produce diverse or high-quality programming diminishes, and fewer players mean less competition, which generally results in higher prices for viewers.
