The spread of variants like Delta demonstrates how interconnected the world truly is—gaps in vaccination in one country threaten global health security. The emergence of new, potentially more deadly variants is an added impetus for wealthier nations to support equitable vaccine distribution.
At the June G7 summit, world leaders pledged over 817 million vaccine doses—an encouraging step, but still insufficient to bridge the vast gap faced by countries like Indonesia and the Philippines. As manufacturing capabilities expand, so must the efforts to ensure equitable access.
