Laos has experienced explosive growth in hydropower capacity, increasing from approximately 400 megawatts before 2000 to over 7,000 megawatts today—more than ten times its initial capacity. The country aims to build 100 dams by 2030, with the goal of exporting the majority of this electricity to neighboring countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and China.
