Notable publications, including co-authored books by art historians Emma Bunker and Latchford, have perpetuated the myth of authenticity, sometimes even misrepresenting the origins of artifacts. They claimed certain statues were from Thailand rather than Cambodia, or from specific villages or districts that may never have existed or have yet to be conclusively linked to the artifacts. These distortions complicate efforts to establish rightful ownership and provenance.
