Part 3/10:
A common misconception is that vitamin C can prevent or cure colds. Despite popular beliefs, scientific evidence does not conclusively support the idea that vitamin C prevents the common cold. Small studies suggest a potential to shorten the duration and reduce severity, but large studies have yet to confirm this definitively. Nevertheless, vitamin C does support immune system functions, such as mobilizing white blood cells to fight infection and protecting healthy cells from damage via its antioxidant properties.
How Much Vitamin C Do We Really Need?
The recommended daily intake (RDI) varies by age, health status, and other factors:
Adults (both males and females): 85–105 mg
Children (infants 0-6 months): 35 mg
Older children up to 6 years: 15 mg
